Weighing your sorted debris materials need not be complicated. Let us break it down for you to help you effectively weigh and track sorted debris materials bound for waste diversion.
Here are 4 methods you can use to weigh your sorted debris material.
Hanging Scale Method
You will need a hanging scale, typically used for weighing luggage and a debris bag.
Put the sorted debris material in the bag and hook the bag on the hanging scale.
Take a photo of the bag hanging on the hook with the weight clearly visible.
Small Tare Scale Method
You will need a scale that has a tare function and detached corded display as well as a debris bag, bin or box.
Place the empty container on the scale and tare the scale to zero out the containers weight.
Fill the container with the sorted debris material.
Take a photo of the container on the scale with the weight clearly visible.
💡Pro Tip If you are using bags with a small tare scale, you can tare (zero out) your own weight and take a selfie of yourself on the scale holding the bag of sorted debris material. As long as the photo shows the debris material and the weight, this can be a very efficient method of data collection on jobsites.
Large Platform Scale Method
You will need a large platform scale and a debris container.
Place the empty container on the scale and tare the scale.
Fill your debris bag, box or bin with the sorted debris material.
Take a photo of the container on the scale with the weight clearly visible.
Waybills / Third Party Removal
You will need waybills showing the debris material weight from the recycler or your third-party removal company.
Take a photo of the roll off bin or dumpster so that the sorted debris material is clearly visible.
Take a photo of the waybill showing the weight after it has been removed and deposited at the appropriate transfer station or site.
